How to Handle Low Storage Devices?

Before going into our topic, I will introduce myself. I’m an internet programmer with more than 8 years of experience. I enjoy running with all important PHP systems like WordPress, Codeigniter, Shopify, and Laravel. I very own an IT offerings corporation Nexbloke having a group of 25 professional developers, designers, and search engine marketing specialists.

Importance of Data

In the modern age data is also a most essential asset in our business, social and personal life. Everyone has mobile mobiles and PC’s with important and irreplaceable data saved in different forms and types. For example, writers have data in the form of documents of their articles and assignments, logo designers have the bundles of logos they have designed for their customers, programmers have hundreds of files in which they have written their software programs etc. 

Besides these examples, personal  data needs storage space too. Personal data in the form of images and short and long videos which belongs to the emotions and memories as a social person and as a human being, is as important as other business data or it may be more important for someone. 

From buying a new mobile these images increase day by day. Even people normally upload a lot of their images on social media platforms like Facebook,  Instagram and twitter which increased the requirement for higher storage space. There are also so many memories that can not be uploaded on social media. Rather, we prefer to keep these on our mobile because these are precious for us. Is there any doubt in it?

Possible Solutions:

Modern transmission media provides us many platforms to save our pictures and videos which allows us to update these day by day and twenty four hours in a week. People can use multiple techniques to tackle this problem. Some of these techniques we are mentioning below:

1: Cloud Storage

Cloud storage comes number one on our list of possible solutions. Cloud storage is a virtual storage space provided by many companies like google drive and mega. Some of these companies provide free storage where others charge a handsome amount for using their service.

As a free solution we take google drive and mega for our example. On both of these you can create a free account and start uploading your valuable data right away. Both provide a limited storage space for free, for Google drive storage limit is 10GB and for mega this limit is around 25GB.

There are some disadvantages of cloud storage

• All of these cloud storage providers have limited storage free. When we reach that limit we have to purchase their expensive packages to continue using their service. This seems not a proper solution if we need to pay recurring deposit just to keep our personal data, data which we are not using commercially and making money with it.
• This method of storage is really cost consuming. This is not the right solution for students or people with personal data.
• Cloud storage data is not easily accessible if data is used regularly. 

2: Portable Hard Drive

This solution can be implemented on low storage computers and laptops. I also use this solution. I have 1TB storage on my laptop but as a web developer I store many solutions, web applications and plugins I developed in the last eight years. When I felt low storage I used an extra portable hard drive. Now I just plug that drive in and use it.

This solution comes with less disadvantages. Portable hard drive is expensive but it is only one time payment until you require more storage. It also requires care. Obviously if that little drive is lost you’ll lose all data in it.

For a large amount of data you need more expensive drives and more drives in quantity and that is its big disadvantage. Managing and keeping too many drives is not easy. And if data is used regularly then it becomes more difficult. You can imagine how much  time it requires to find a piece of document in multiple drives.

3: Compressing Data

In my view the best technique to handle low storage is to compress your existing data with a free online compressing tool. There are many online free tools available for different types of files. Every student will relate to the fact that they have hundreds of movies and music files stored on their hard drives.
