Sign in with a local account

Windows 10 asks you to sign with your Microsoft account. It helps you access certain apps and sync settings easily. Here is how you can use your local account in order to sign in.

  1. Click – Start Button
  2. Now, click – Settings
  3. Click- Accounts
  4. Click – Sign in with a local account
  5. Key in your password used for your Microsoft account
  6. Click- Next
  7. Type in your username. You can also opt for a new password here
  8. Click- Next
  9. Click – Sign out & Finish

Disable Cortana

Cortana is a digital assistant that comes with Microsoft version and you can get assistance on Windows 10 here. You can disable Cortana prior to Anniversary Update or you can turn it off to look it isn’t around.

  1. Right click on Start button
  2. Click- Search
  3. Click the button- Settings
  4. Underneath settings you view a switch, click on that to it off.

Remove the Cortana field that appears in Taskbar

It is quite convenient to have a search option in taskbar, but it may not look like Windows 7. You can eliminate it to make it look like Windows 7

  1. Right click on a blank spot on the taskbar
  2. Click- Cortana
  3. Click – Hidden

Remove the Task View button present in the taskbar

You have a Task View button in the taskbar and if you don’t need it you can remove it too.

  1. Right click on a blank area on the taskbar
  2. Click- Show Task View button to make the checkmark disappear.

Remove the Action center button present in the taskbar

If you want to get the feel of Windows 7, you may also want to remove the Action Center button. Here is how you can do it.

  1. Right click on a blank area on your taskbar
  2. Click- Settings
  3. Click- Turn system icons on/of
  4. Click- switch close to Action Center to turn it off

Change the Start Menu to get the previous one in Windows 7

You can also change the look of Start menu to make it look like it is in Windows 7

  1. Install your preferred web browser via Star Menu, desktop or taskbar
  2. Browse classicshell.net
  3. Click- Download
  4. Click – Run after the downloading process is finished
  5. Click- Next
  6. Click- checkbox to accept the terms.
  7. Click- Next
  8. Click- next
  9. Click- Install
  10. Click- Finish
  11. Now click Start to view the settings menu
  12. Click- Windows 7 style
  13. Click- Select Skin
  14. Click- dropdown arrow located near Skin
  15. Click – a particular skin
  16. Click – OK and now the Start menu will look like the one in Windows 7

Pin Internet Explorer to the taskbar or Start Menu

You can pin the internet explorer to the taskbar or Start menu by following these simple steps.

  1. Right Click- Start button
  2. Click-Search
  3. Type- Internet Explorer
  4. Now Right click on – Internet Explorer
  5. Click- Pin to taskbar or Pin to Start or even both

From Start Menu/Taskbar- Unpin Microsoft Edge icon

If you are tired of looking at edge icon throughout, you can remove it too.

  1. Right Click- Edge button present on your taskbar
  2. Click – Unpin from taskbar
  3. Click- Start button
  4. Right click- the Edge tile
  5. Click- Unpin from Start

Set Internet Explorer as default web browser

You can set Internet Explorer as the default web browser if you want in Windows 10.

  1. Click- Start button
  2. Click – Settings button
  3. Click- System
  4. Click- Default Apps
  5. Click – Microsoft Edge or any other default browser that you have set
  6. Click- Internet Explorer
  7. Click- Switch Anyway

Modify the Title Bars colours

Windows 10 has white as title bar colour which you may not find attractive against the blue colour that was seen in Windows 7. You can change it for Windows 10 as well.

  1. Click- Start Button
  2. Click – Settings button
  3. Click- Personalisation
  4. Click- Colours
  5. Click a preferred colour
  6. Click on switch underneath Show color on the title bar to turn it ON.
